New Jersey: The Northeast's Freight Gateway

New Jersey is the logistics heart of the entire Northeast — anchored by the Port of New York and New Jersey, the Meadowlands distribution belt, and the Exit 8A/9 warehouse corridor, all tied together by the NJ Turnpike (I-95), I-78, I-80 and I-287. If you're hauling reefer into the nation's densest consumer market, you're in exactly the right state.

🛣️ New Jersey's Major Freight Hubs

The Port of New York and New Jersey is the busiest container port on the East Coast — handling roughly 8–9 million TEUs a year and feeding the largest metropolitan consumer market in the United States. Combined with the Meadowlands and the Exit 8A warehouse belt around Cranbury and South Brunswick, New Jersey's interstate grid — I-95, I-78, I-80, I-287, I-295 — connects the entire Northeast to the national freight network.

Newark ZIP: 07102 · Port + #1 Northeast distribution hub
Elizabeth ZIP: 07201 · Port Newark-Elizabeth marine terminal
Jersey City ZIP: 07302 · Hudson waterfront logistics
Edison ZIP: 08817 · Central NJ warehouse belt (Exit 8A/9)
Trenton ZIP: 08608 · I-95 corridor, state capital
Camden ZIP: 08103 · Delaware River port terminal
Paterson ZIP: 07501 · North Jersey freight center
Vineland ZIP: 08360 · South Jersey produce & reefer hub

🌡️ New Jersey's Climate & Why Reefer Demand Never Stops

New Jersey's four-season climate drives year-round demand for temperature-controlled transport. Summer highs regularly climb past 90°F (32°C) along the I-95 corridor, while winters bring snow and freezing temperatures — cold-chain integrity matters in both directions, all year long.

Spring: The "Garden State" wakes up — asparagus, leafy greens, and early produce from South Jersey's farming belt push reefer demand higher.

Summer: Jersey tomatoes, sweet corn, peaches and blueberries move fast in the heat, alongside constant food distribution out of the ports. Experienced reefer drivers stay busy.

Fall & Winter: Cranberry harvest in the Pine Barrens, holiday food volume, and imported goods flowing off the docks keep freight moving. New Jersey's market never truly slows — it just changes cargo.

🚦 Your Routes from New Jersey with Astel

Astel's core corridors run Northeast ↔ Midwest and keep expanding. New Jersey drivers pick up loads in Newark, Elizabeth, Edison and Camden, then head west on I-78 and I-80 toward Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Nashville, Kansas City and across the full Midwest network. We're growing — drivers must be ready to run all 48 contiguous states.

🏙️ Newark → Chicago 🏙️ Elizabeth → Indianapolis 🏙️ Newark → Columbus, OH 🏙️ Edison → Nashville 🏙️ Camden → Kansas City 🏙️ Trenton → Cleveland

📊 New Jersey in Numbers — Freight & Logistics

The scale of New Jersey's freight market puts it at the top of the East Coast — and it keeps growing.

#1 Port of New York & New Jersey — the busiest container port on the U.S. East Coast
~9M TEUs moved through the port each year, serving the largest consumer market in the country
122M+ Square feet of warehouse space in the NJ industrial market — one of the densest in the nation
I-95 The NJ Turnpike is among the busiest freight corridors in the United States
Crossroads "Crossroads of the East" — the densest interstate network per square mile in America
