Why Virginia Drivers Choose Astel
Our owner drove trucks himself — and built the company he always wanted to work for. 18 years later, we're still growing and still treating every driver like a person, not a number in a system.
Virginia: The Mid-Atlantic's Freight Engine
Virginia is a Mid-Atlantic logistics powerhouse — anchored by the Port of Virginia in Norfolk, the Richmond distribution corridor, and the heavy-truck arteries of I-81, I-95, I-64 and I-85. With the deepest harbor on the U.S. East Coast, if you're hauling reefer through the mid-Atlantic, you're in exactly the right state.
🛣️ Virginia's Major Freight Hubs
The Port of Virginia is the deepest and widest harbor on the U.S. East Coast, dredged to 55 feet to handle the largest container ships afloat — and it's one of the fastest-growing ports in the country. Combined with Richmond's distribution network and Virginia's interstate system — I-95, I-64, I-81, I-85, I-66 — the state links the entire mid-Atlantic to the national freight grid.
🌡️ Virginia's Climate & Why Reefer Demand Never Stops
Virginia's humid subtropical climate fuels year-round demand for temperature-controlled transport. Summer highs regularly reach 90°F+ (32°C+) across the Piedmont and Tidewater, while the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah bring cold, snowy winters — cold-chain integrity matters in every season.
Spring: Shenandoah Valley produce and greenhouse crops ramp up,
alongside the region's massive poultry industry — reefer demand climbs.
Summer: Peaches, tomatoes, sweet corn and coastal seafood
move fast in the heat. Experienced reefer drivers stay in constant demand.
Fall & Winter: Apple harvest in the northern valley, holiday
poultry volume from the Harrisonburg corridor, and steady port imports keep
freight rolling. Virginia's market never truly slows — it just shifts cargo type.
🚦 Your Routes from Virginia with Astel
Astel's core corridors run Mid-Atlantic ↔ Midwest and keep expanding. Virginia drivers pick up loads in Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke and Harrisonburg, then move west and north on I-81, I-64 and I-77 toward Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Nashville and Kansas City. We're growing — drivers must be ready to run all 48 contiguous states.
📊 Virginia in Numbers — Freight & Logistics
The scale of Virginia's freight market makes it a Mid-Atlantic leader — and it's still growing fast.
