Why Ohio Drivers Choose Astel LLC
Our owner was a driver himself — and built the company he always wanted to work for. 18 years later, we're still growing and still treating drivers like people, not numbers in a system.
Ohio: The Crossroads of American Freight
Ohio sits at the geographic center of the U.S. freight network — within a one-day drive of 60% of the U.S. population and 50% of North American manufacturing capacity. If you're driving out of Ohio, you're already in the most load-dense corridor in the country.
🛣️ Ohio's Major Freight Hubs
Ohio's freight network is anchored by three major metro markets — Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati — all connected by I-70, I-71, I-75, I-77, and the Ohio Turnpike (I-80/I-90). Columbus is rapidly emerging as one of the fastest-growing distribution hubs in the entire Midwest, while Cleveland and Toledo power the industrial and automotive corridors.
🌨️ Ohio's Climate & Why Reefer Drivers Are Always in Demand
Ohio experiences all four seasons — and each one keeps freight moving. Year-round manufacturing demand means loads never dry up, but the seasonal peaks make Ohio one of the most consistent reefer markets in the Midwest.
Spring: Agricultural freight from Ohio's farm belt ramps up.
Spring weight restrictions on secondary roads push more freight
to the main interstate corridors — more loads for OTR drivers.
Summer: Steady construction and agricultural freight.
Food product hauls are active statewide as demand for refrigerated
goods peaks across the Midwest distribution network.
Fall: The biggest peak of the year — holiday retail
distribution season runs September through November,
with massive freight volume out of Columbus and Cincinnati
fulfillment centers heading in all directions.
Winter: Lake Effect snow on I-90 and I-80
creates tougher conditions, but spot rates increase 10–15% —
experienced OTR drivers who stay rolling earn more per mile.
🚦 Your Routes from Ohio with Astel
Astel's core corridors cover Midwest ↔ East Coast and continue to expand. Drivers based in Ohio load in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, or Toledo and move east on I-70/I-76 to Pittsburgh and the East Coast, north on I-75 into Michigan, south on I-71/I-75 into Kentucky and Tennessee, or west on I-70 back through Indianapolis and into Chicago. As our network grows, drivers must be ready to run all 48 states.
📊 Ohio by the Numbers — Freight & Trucking
The scale of Ohio's freight market is hard to overstate. Few states in the country offer this combination of volume, consistency, and geographic access.
