Indiana: The Crossroads of America — and Astel's Home State

"Crossroads of America" is Indiana's official motto, and it's literal: six major Interstates cross the state. For Astel it's more than geography — our headquarters is in West Lafayette, and our Chicago yard is right next door.

🛣️ Major Indiana Freight Hubs

From the steel and intermodal belt of Northwest Indiana to the giant air hub in Indianapolis, freight is Indiana's family business — and ours too.

IndianapolisZIP: 46241 · FedEx's second-largest hub in the world
Gary / NW IndianaZIP: 46406 · Chicago-metro logistics belt
West LafayetteZIP: 47906 · Astel headquarters
Fort WayneZIP: 46803 · I-69 distribution corridor
South BendZIP: 46619 · I-80/90 northern gateway
EvansvilleZIP: 47711 · Ohio River industrial market

🌡️ Indiana Climate & Reefer Demand

Four honest seasons — humid summers, snowy winters near the lake — and a food industry that never stops: that's steady reefer work in both directions.

Summer: Heat and humidity across the corn belt — dairy, pork, and produce distribution all run on refrigeration.

Winter: Lake-effect snow hits the northern counties along I-80/94 and I-65 — winter driving skills pay a premium here.

Year-round: Indiana's meat and dairy processing — including some of the largest dairy operations in the Midwest — feeds constant reefer volume toward Chicago and beyond.

🚦 Your Indiana Lanes with Astel

Indiana is the middle of our map. The Chicago yard — rest area, sauna, laundry, our own repair shop — is about an hour from Gary and two from Lafayette. Loads head west to Denver and the coasts, and drivers must be ready to run all 48 contiguous states.
