California: America's Reefer Capital

California produces more agricultural goods than any other U.S. state — and nearly all of it moves in refrigerated trucks. If you're based here, you're at the source of the most active reefer freight market in the country.

🛣️ Major California Delivery Hubs

From the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach — the busiest container ports in the U.S. — to the Central Valley's produce corridors, California is a non-stop freight engine. I-5, I-10, I-15, and I-80 connect every major market to the rest of the country.

Los AngelesZIP: 90001 · Largest U.S. freight market
FresnoZIP: 93721 · Central Valley produce hub
San DiegoZIP: 92101 · Cross-border reefer gateway
SacramentoZIP: 95814 · Northern CA distribution center
BakersfieldZIP: 93301 · Agricultural reefer corridor
StocktonZIP: 95202 · Inland port & cold storage hub
OaklandZIP: 94601 · West Coast intermodal terminal
RiversideZIP: 92501 · SoCal distribution gateway

🌡️ California Climate & Why Reefer Freight Never Stops

California's climate is as diverse as its freight — and that diversity drives year-round demand for refrigerated transport. The Central Valley bakes at over 105°F in summer, making temperature control a life-or-death necessity for perishable goods.

Spring: Peak strawberry, cherry, and early vegetable harvest season in the Salinas Valley and San Joaquin — reefer demand surges.

Summer: Record heat across the Central Valley means every produce load requires continuous refrigeration monitoring. Experienced reefer drivers are premium hires.

Fall & Winter: Citrus, avocado, and winter vegetable harvests keep the lanes full. California ships produce to all 48 states year-round — this market never truly goes quiet.

🚦 Your California-to-Midwest & West Lanes with Astel

Astel's corridors run West ↔ Midwest and continue to expand. California drivers load in Los Angeles, Fresno, Stockton, and Sacramento and head east across I-10, I-40, and I-80 into Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, and the full Midwest network. We're growing — drivers must be ready to run all 48 contiguous states.

🏙️ Los Angeles → Chicago 🏙️ Fresno → Kansas City 🏙️ Sacramento → Denver 🏙️ San Diego → Dallas 🏙️ Oakland → Minneapolis 🏙️ Bakersfield → Phoenix

📊 California Freight by the Numbers

The scale of California's freight market puts every other state in perspective.

#1 California is the top agricultural-producing state — over $59 billion in farm output annually
40% Of all U.S. fruits, nuts, and vegetables are grown in California — nearly all reefer-shipped
Port LA Port of Los Angeles — #1 busiest container port in the U.S., handling 10M+ TEUs per year
~$3.10/mi Average CA reefer spot rate — among the highest nationally, driven by agricultural demand
170K+ Commercial truck drivers currently employed in California — the largest driver workforce in the U.S.
