Oregon: Pacific Northwest Freight Engine

Berries and pears from the valleys, nearly all of America's hazelnuts, and one of the country's biggest frozen-potato industries in the Columbia Basin — Oregon grows and freezes food for the whole nation, and reefers carry all of it.

🛣️ Major Oregon Freight Hubs

Portland anchors the I-5 corridor and the river port; out east, Hermiston and the Columbia Basin load frozen food onto I-84 around the clock.

PortlandZIP: 97211 · PNW port & distribution anchor
SalemZIP: 97301 · Willamette Valley food processing
EugeneZIP: 97402 · Southern I-5 market
HermistonZIP: 97838 · Columbia Basin cold-storage belt
MedfordZIP: 97501 · Pear country on I-5
OntarioZIP: 97914 · I-84 gateway to Idaho

🌡️ Oregon Climate & Reefer Demand

Two states in one: mild, wet valleys west of the Cascades and high desert to the east — and refrigerated freight moving between them all year.

Summer: Berry and cherry harvests sweep the Willamette Valley — delicate, time-critical reefer loads at premium urgency.

Fall: Pears out of Medford and Hood River, hazelnuts from the valley — harvest season keeps reefers rolling east.

Winter: The Columbia Basin's frozen lines ship year-round, while I-84 through the Gorge tests real winter skills — ice, wind, and chain-up zones.

🚦 Your Oregon Lanes with Astel

Oregon connects to Astel's West ↔ Midwest network over I-84: loads run east through Boise and Salt Lake City onto I-80 toward Denver, Kansas City, and Chicago. Be ready to run all 48 contiguous states.

📊 Oregon Freight by the Numbers

Oregon feeds the country more than most people realize.

~99% Of America's hazelnuts are grown in Oregon's Willamette Valley — a harvest that ships out on trucks every fall
Basin The Columbia Basin around Hermiston and Boardman is one of the nation's largest frozen-potato processing centers — steady reefer freight in every season
I-5 + I-84 Two major corridors meet in Portland — the West Coast spine and the northern route east to Salt Lake and the Midwest
Gorge The Columbia River Gorge on I-84 — one of the most demanding winter driving stretches in the West, where professionals stand out
